Monopoly Steer Wins the PEI Easter Beef Show





Pictured above is Glenn Jay with the Grand Champion Steer at the PEI Easter Beef Show & Sale in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was also the Champion AOB steer. The steer is Monopoly sired and is out of a purebred Angus cow. The cow, JEM Bride 46M, was also the dam of the 2010 Grand Champion at the Border Classic in Nappan, Nova Scotia. 46M is bred back to Monopoly for a December, 2011 calf.

This calf was purchased by Glenn Jay at the Duncan Livestock Prospect Steer and Heifer Sale in October, 2010. Jay receives a $150 credit for being a breed champion as well as a $250 credit for being named the Grand Champion for our 2011 sale on October 1st.

The judges for the show were Brad and Sarah Buchanan Gold Bar Livestock of Ariss, Ontario.

Lot 24 and 25 sell on Saturday

The sale catalog is online for the Maritime Beef Test Station Sale at Nappan, Nova Scotia. Check it out here. The sale order is the same as the catalog beginning with Charolais followed by Black Angus.

Lot # 24 is KJDF Mr. Xcitement 84X. He is a SAV Net Worth 4200 son out of a Glen Islay Battle Cry dam. 84X was the Reserve Grand Champion Male at Charlottetown and the Champion Bull Calf in the Igenity Classic. Click here for his full pedigree as well as his strong EPDs. 84X weighed 1330 lbs on March 17th. He was born unassisted on January 10, 2010 with a 72 lb birth weight which is the lightest birth weight and scored the highest rib eye area of all Black Angus bulls in the sale.

84X's Igenity scores were as follows; Average Daily Gain-8, Tenderness-9, Marbling-7, Quality Grade-7, Yield Grade-8, rib eye Area-5, Heifer Pregnancy Rate-7, Stayability-7, Maternal Calving Ease-7, and Docility-7. 84X tested negative for BVD.

He finished 3rd in his open show class in Charlottetown and 2nd in the live portion of the Igenity Angus Classic and 3rd overall. 80X along with 2 females made up the first place get of sire at Charlottetown. His full brother, KJDF Womanizer 29W sold to Nova Scotia's Rocky Knoll Farm in April of 2010 at the Maritime Beef Test Station Bull Sale. 80X weighed 1343 lbs on March 17th. He was born unassisted on January 5, 2010 with a 78 lb birth weight. 80X's dam has been a solid producer with 3 of her first 4 calves selling at this sale.

80X's Igenity scores were as follows; Average Daily Gain-6, Tenderness-4, Marbling-6, Quality Grade-6, Yield Grade-5, Ribeye Area-4, Heifer Pregnancy Rate-5, Stayability-7, Maternal Calving Ease-2, and Docility-5. 80X tested negative for BVD.

2 Angus Bulls Sell on April 2nd

2 of our bulls have qualified for the Maritime Beef Test Station Sale on April 2nd beginning at 1:00 pm in Nappan, Nova Scotia. Buyer Reward Program



Duncan Livestock is offering credit to our 2010 buyers for their 2011 show results at the PEI Easter Beef Show & Sale and the Border Classic. At the PEI Easter Beef Show, there are 9 entries eligible for the credit. At the Border Classic, there are 2 entries that are eligible for the credit.

For each animal purchased at the 2010 sale, we are offering the following dollar amounts as credit to our 2011 sale on the purchase of any sale entry. The dollar amount is based on how the steer or heifer purchased at our 2010 sale places at their respective show.

Grand Champion overall at PEI Easter Beef or Border Classic, $250 credit.
Reserve Grand Champion overall at PEI Easter Beef or Border Classic, $200 credit.
Breed Champion(all breeds and heifer division)at PEI Easter Beef, $150 credit.
Reserve Breed Champion (all breeds and heifer division) at PEI Easter Beef, $100 credit.
Light or Heavy Champion at the Border Classic, $150 credit.
Reserve Light or Heavy Champion at the Border Classic, $100 credit.

All credit won in 2011 must be used at the 2011 sale on October 1st, 2011. Multiple credit may be combined to win and use.

Randy and Debbie have 3 children, Tricia (1st year university), Jaclyn (grade 12), and Dereck (grade 10) who are involved in the 4H program showing market steers and heifers as well as showing Simmental cattle.

Randy and Debbie will be moving to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in mid April so Debbie can be close to a hospital that specializes in this type of transplant. The distance between Edmonton and Cornwall is almost 5000 kilometres or a little over 3000 miles.

New Auction Item To Be Announced Later This Week
